After each outdoor walk with the dog, cleaning dog’s paws properly before bringing it into the house is a good idea. It is a useful practice not only for the hygiene of the housing but also for that of the animal! Here are our tips.
Cleaning Dog’s Paws
When the dog goes out for a walk, he puts his paws everywhere, he could have small residues of glass, irritating fluids, urine from other dogs, for this series of reasons, it is appropriate to clean them before to enter the house.
As also confirmed by the Ministry of Health, to clean the dog’s paws you should avoid harsh products and alcohol-based products that can cause irritation and itching, and instead use water and a mild soap adapted to the pH of animals (without the addition of perfume). Of course, bleach or human soap should never be used!
How to wash the dog’s paws? Take a basin, fill it with hot water, and add the soap. Soak your dog’s paws thoroughly, scrub them thoroughly using a cloth, and clean them thoroughly. Then pat them dry with a clean towel, trying not to leave them damp.
If, on the other hand, you enter a friend’s house or you are in a vacation rental and there is no basin available, you can put suitable wipes in your bag, which will be an excellent ally to clean the dog’s paws.
If the animal has small wounds on the paws, you should not give up going out if the dog wants to go for a walk, you can make him wear practical protective shoes, which protect him from infections or inconveniences that may arise from direct contact with the ground.
Cleaning the dog’s coat after the walk
Even the dog’s coat should always be cleaned when he returns from the walk.
We therefore advise you to brush it and clean it with pet wipes and to bathe it from time to time, using only dog shampoo. Do not bathe too much as they are often harmful for dogs, as there is a risk of modifying the lipid layer present on its skin, thus exposing it to external agents, such as parasites and bacteria.
